When the first part of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya was released back in 2006, it became an overnight sensation on both sides of the pacific. And little wonder. Narrated by a hilariously sarcastic and painfully logical guy being dragged into one weird abnormality after another by an eccentric female who acts more like an alien than the actual aliens (no, really), this show managed what very few have ever pulled off. Equal parts comedy, slice of life and intensive science fiction. If you still haven’t jumped into this show yet, this new year is the time to fix that up! Just be prepared for more than a few brain twists by the end.
